JROTC programs from across Southern West Virginia traveled to Oak Hill’s Fayette Institute of Technology last month to compete in the 2021 FIT Field Day.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the schools haven’t had the chance to compete in the past two years. Luckily this year was different, as six schools’ JROTC programs participated in the event: Greenbrier West, Woodrow Wilson, James Monroe, FIT, Nicholas County and Webster County.
The day was full of physical fitness activities such as the 1-Mile Run, Tire Flips, Push Ups and Weighted Wheelbarrow Race. The final event was topped by the Tug of War tournament with FIT coming out on top.
Each event was designed to test their overall individual and team physical and mental fitness levels. Every JROTC program’s team rotated through each event and accumulated a team score.
At the conclusion all the points were tallied and the overall winner was FIT, followed in second place by Greenbrier West and in third place by Woodrow Wilson.
A special thanks goes to the West Virginia National Guard Recruiting and Retention Battalion located in the Glen Jean Armed Forces Reserve Center, Glen Jean.
