The Fayetteville community gathered Thursday for an informal good-bye to this year's senior class, which will be the final one in Fayetteville High School's long, proud history.
After practice for Friday's graduation ceremony, Fayetteville's last group of seniors met up with students from Fayetteville and Gatewood elementary schools for a parade to mark the ceremonial passing of the torch.
The students, faculty, staff and friends marched from FES downtown to the current Fayetteville High, which will be home to the Fayetteville Pre-K to 8 beginning next fall.
"Today was just about coming together with Fayetteville and Gatewood elementary schools and the seventh-graders (who will be at the school next year)," said Melissa Harrah, principal of Fayetteville Elementary School.
"We just wanted to show our community that the Pirate spirit is alive and the tradition will carry on."
