MONTGOMERY — Upper Kanawha Valley children, aged 6 to 13, will paint, design, sew, tie dye, and more during a day camp from July 22 to July 25 at BridgeValley Community and Technical College’s GRID. The summer camp costs $100 per child and includes all materials.
Each day, campers will experience different creative activities and swim at the Upper Kanawha Valley YMCA. Regional and local artists will lead hands-on workshops in:
• Acrylic painting on canvas
• Geometric foam art
• Tie die pillowcases with Sharpies
• Faux stained glass luminaries
• Graphic design
Campers should wear clothes that can get messy and are required to bring their own lunch, snacks, drinks, swim suits, and towels each of the four days, which begin at 8 a.m. and end at 5:30 p.m.
Pre-registration is required though EventBrite at the following link: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/the-grid-summer-art-camp-2019-tickets-63400399301?aff=ebdssbdestsearch.
Registration is limited to 20 children. For additional information, parents can email Kasandra Parrish at Kasandra.firstname.lastname@example.org.
“We want the children to have fun and develop their creativity in various makerspaces located within The GRID,” says Laura McCullough, vice president of BridgeValley’s community education division.
“A makerspace is a lab where makers share ideas, equipment, tools, and knowledge to expand inventiveness in an increasingly automated world.”
The GRID is located at 807 2nd Avenue in Montgomery. The summer camp is funded in part through the generosity of the Greater Kanawha Valley Foundation.
