Among the September indictments, a Fayette County man stands accused of a string of charges, including kidnapping, attempted murder, strangulation and child neglect.

Darrell R. Sharp II, 35, of Oak Hill, was charged in June for allegedly holding a female against her will and torturing her.

“It is very, very intense domestic abuse,” said Fayette County Prosecutor Larry Harrah.

The criminal complaint said an officer was sent to a home in Minden after emergency services received a hang-up call.

When the officer arrived, Sharp ordered him to leave the home. The officer told Sharp he needed to speak with everyone inside the residence when an adult female came to the door covered in cuts and bruises from her scalp line to the tops of her feet, along with two black eyes, the complaint said.

The officer interviewed the woman in his patrol car while Sharp continued to yell at the officer from the home. The woman denied that Sharp had hit her, and told the officer she had been in an ATV accident.

The officer contacted his supervising officer, a domestic violence advocate and an ambulance.

Officers made further contact with juveniles inside the home, which had no running water or toilets, and learned that Sharp had allegedly beaten the adult woman with a baseball bat and choked one of the juvenile females.

Harrah said Sharp allegedly burned the victim with a blowtorch and threatened to cut off her fingers with pruning shears.

“He thought she was cheating on him,” Harrah said.

Sharp remains at Southern Regional Jail on $150,000 bond. In all, Sharp faces the following charges: kidnapping; attempted murder; assault during the commission of a felony; malicious assault; child neglect creating risk of injury (two counts); strangulation; second offense domestic battery, a misdemeanor; and obstructing an officer, a misdemeanor.

“It’s really severe,” Harrah said. “It’s one of the most disturbing cases I’ve ever seen.”
