The popular series of dinner theaters at Hawks Nest State Park takes a different turn April 14 with the presentation of a lunch theater and a new play. “Karen Vuranch as Louella Parsons: First Lady of Gossip” will be presented for the first time at Hawks Nest Lodge with lunch beginning at noon and the show at 1 p.m.
“Karen Vuranch is well-known throughout the state as a local actress, writer, and creator of the popular ‘Murder Mystery’ plays performed at state park dinner theaters in recent years, and we’re proud to host her debut as her newest character,” said Hawks Nest Activities Coordinator Megan Flinn. “This is a perfect opportunity to take in a mid-day show and spend a spring getaway weekend in the lush mountains of the New River Gorge.”
Following a hearty lunch at the Hawks Nest Restaurant, spend an hour with Louella Parsons (depicted by Vuranch) as she delves into the secrets and gossip surrounding the brightest Hollywood stars, from Marilyn Monroe to Clark Gable, and get a gander at this lady behind the headlines.
Parsons (Aug. 6, 1881 to Dec. 9, 1972) was the first American news-writer movie columnist in the United States. She was a gossip columnist who, for many years, was an influential arbiter of Hollywood mores; often feared and hated by the individuals, mostly actors, whose careers she could negatively impact via her radio show and newspaper columns.

Two people stay for $135.21; price includes lodging, lunch for two, entertainment for two, 20 percent gift shop discount, express breakfast for two, and all taxes and gratuities.
