Saying farewell to a good girl

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Department is mourning the loss of one of its beloved K-9 partners. On Friday, March 26, Dixie, a bloodhound with the sheriff's department, lost a short battle with cancer and passed away peacefully at home at the age of 8. Dixie was handled by Detective-Sergeant S.R. Morris. Over the past seven years, Dixie was successful in tracking and helping capture fleeing suspects, along with assisting to locate Alzheimer's patients, lost hunters, missing persons and evidence recovery. When off duty, Dixie enjoyed sun bathing in her yard on a sunny day and going to Summersville Lake for a boat ride to play fetch in the water with the children. "She will be deeply missed," read a post on the FCSD's Facebook page.
