The Collins Middle School baseball team improved to 10-0 with three recent wins. Below is a review:
Braxton County 4
Host Collins carried a 7-1 lead through four innings en route to the 7-4 victory over Braxton County Wednesday.
Jayden McLain was 2-for-3 and knocked in three runs for CMS. Bailey Bess was 1-for-3 with two RBIs, Conner Jones was 1-for-2 with a double, Kyler Edwards was 2-for-4, and Gabe Truman went 1-for-4.
Cox was 3-for-4 with two doubles for Braxton, and Jarvis had a double and two RBIs.
Dylan Tincher gained the pitching win, fanning five and yielding three hits in three innings. Conner Jones struck out four in relief.
On Tuesday, the Red Devils dispatched the Fayetteville Pirates 9-4.
Kyler Edwards was 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs, and Zayden Gibson was 2-for-3 with a double and a pair of RBIs. Also, Trent Rider and Aiden Smith each drove in a run, and Gibson stole four bases.
Rider got the win on the mound.
Larry Bigham was 1-for-4 with an RBI for the Pirates. Drew Vaught also drove in a run, and Cody Harrell swiped two bases.
Clay County 1
On April 9, Collins secured the conquest of visiting Clay County.
A 12-run uprising in the fourth inning allowed CMS to break the game open.
The Red Devil offense had production from many players on the evening. Kyler Edwards stroked two doubles and drove in as many runs in four at-bats, and Gabe Truman (2-for-3) and Braylan Thomas (2-for-3) knocked in three runs apiece. Also, Jayden McLain was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, Conner Jones was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, and Aiden Smith was 2-for-2 with an RBI. Dylan Tincher, Bailey Bess, Bryson Sapio and Zayden Gibson supplied a base hit apiece, and Bess, Sapio, Gibson and Trent Rider had one RBI each.
Truman, Jones, McLain and Rider scored three runs apiece, and Jones and Truman both stole three bases.
Thacker supplied a hit and an RBI for the Panthers.
Tincher pitched four innings for the win, striking out four and yielding just one hit. Jones threw an inning of relief.
