The University of the Cumberlands swept a softball twin-bill from WVU Tech Saturday.

In the opener, UC won 3-2. Offensive leaders for Tech included: Jennifer Bodden, 1-for-2 with a home run; and Trystan Gue, 2-for-3 with a double, a home run, one run scored and an RBI.

Tech’s Chelsae Holley absorbed the loss on the mound.

Cumberlands posted an 8-5 verdict in the nightcap.

Whitney Patrick was 2-for-2 and scored a run for the Golden Bears. Brittany Chambers went 2-for-4 with a single and a double and a run scored, and Gue was 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles and a single, in addition to scoring two runs and knocking in two.

Nicole Dingess was tagged with the pitching loss.

Earlier last week, Tech dropped a pair of doubleheaders to visiting St. Catharine. St. Catharine posted 8-2 and 10-0 wins on Friday, preceded by 14-3 and 7-6 verdicts on Thursday.

Chambers had a two-run homer for Tech in the 8-2 setback, and Patrick supplied a base hit. For St. Catharine, Casey Crouch was 2-for-4 and Sharonda Mangan drove in three runs.

St. Catharine pitcher Amber Matteoli no-hit Tech in the other contest, striking out nine Bears in the process.

For the winners, Mangan was 2-for-4 and teammate Laura Mattingly knocked in three runs.

In the Thursday twin-bill, St. Catharine plated five runs in the fifth inning of one game to escape with a 7-6 triumph.

Chambers (one RBI) and Erica Schoolcraft (one RBI) both enjoyed two-hit games for the Bears, while Gue, Bodden (one RBI), Angela Santonia and Amy McLaughlin had one hit apiece.

Matteoli and Kasie Prather were both 2-for-2 for the visitors, and Matteoli earned the win on the mound by fanning 11 in five innings.

A 10-run uprising in the fourth inning propelled St. Catharine to its 14-3 win.

Mangan, Prather, Nicole Mills, Justine Paddock and Mary Kate Hayes provided two hits apiece for the winners, while Mangan was the winning hurler.

For Tech, Santonia (double), Gue, Chambers, McLaughlin and Jessica Johnson provided a hit apiece.

Dingess absorbed the loss on the mound.
