On Monday, high school football teams statewide began a season which they hope ends in the 2018 Super Six at Wheeling Island Stadium.

For fans who want to get an early look at local teams, here is a schedule of upcoming scrimmage games:

Saturday, Aug. 11

10 a.m. — Oak Hill at Greenbrier East. Teams participating will include Oak Hill, East and Covington, Va., as well as one other school.

10 a.m. — Fayetteville at St. Marys

11 a.m. — Summers County at Midland Trail

11 a.m. — Meadow Bridge at Sherman

Friday, Aug. 17

6 p.m. — Independence at Fayetteville

7 p.m. — Oak Hill at Summers County

Saturday, Aug. 18

• 10 a.m. — Summers County and Pendleton County at Greenbrier West

Midland Trail Grid-o-rama. Schedule is as follows:

• 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. — Half-field sessions. There will be no down markers for this session. Ten-play format will be utilized, and each team will be guaranteed at least two offensive possessions. There will also be a kicking competition.

• 12:15 p.m. — Any team wanting to have a JV scrimmage will be allowed.

The full-field schedule (real game situations with free kicks) is as follows:

• 1 p.m. — Wyoming East vs. Webster County

2 p.m. — Midland Trail vs. Pocahontas County

• 3 p.m. — Braxton County vs. Lincoln County

4 p.m. — Valley vs. Shady Spring

• 5 p.m. — Clay County vs. Covington, Va.

All 11 Mountain State Athletic Conference football programs will be represented at University of Charleston Stadium In August for the conference’s preseason grid-o-rama.

The two-day event begins on Friday, Aug. 17 at 6 p.m. with St. Albans and Huntington scrimmaging for one hour, followed by Capital versus Huntington at 7 p.m. and St. Albans versus Capital at 8 p.m.

The other eight teams meet up on Saturday, Aug. 18 in four sets of two-hour scrimmages — Cabell Midland works out with George Washington at 10 a.m., then it’s Hurricane against Riverside at noon, Parkersburg versus South Charleston at 2 p.m. and Spring Valley against Woodrow Wilson at 4 p.m.

It’s the final tuneup for teams before the regular season kicks off the weekend of Aug. 23-25 around West Virginia.
