On the heels of two straight undefeated seasons, the Fayetteville Middle School girls basketball team is three games into its quest for a third running of the table.

A 39-14 conquest of host Nuttall Tuesday helped the FMS girls — who have won the past four Class AA county titles — hike their 2005-06 record to 3-0.

The one-two punch of Bethanie Murphy (16 points) and Heather Stevens (15) spearheaded the victory. Also entering the scorebook for the winners were: Kara Evans, 2; Amy Holly, 4; and Bryana Christian, 2.

The Generals were led by four points each from Hayley Boley and Jeanni Critchley. Breanna Rider, Shawna Hypes and Danielle Roach added two points apiece.

Powered by Nich Carte and Drew Weis, the Fayetteville boys allowed the school to register a clean sweep of Nuttall by posting a 45-23 verdict. Carte scored 15 and Weis chipped in 14.

Other FMS scorers were: Caleb O’Neal, 4; MichaelAngelo Hernandez, 2; Kyle Colon, 4; Chase Lafferty, 2; Dylan Young, 2; and Josh Workman, 2.

In earlier outings, the Fayetteville girls defeated Richwood 41-19 and Mount Hope 51-25.

Against Richwood, Bethanie Murphy scored 11 and Shandi Myles 10 to highlight the Pirate attack. Others in the scoring column were: Amy Holly, 6; Heather Stevens, 6; Taren Bone, 3; Bryana Christian, 1; and Hannah Mitchell, 4.

Allison Hacker tallied 12 for Richwood.

Against the Colts, Heather Stevens tallied 12 and Bethanie Murphy 11 for the Pirates. Also in the scoring column were: Shandi Myles, 4; Kara Evans, 4; Amy Holly, 6; Jessica Neff, 2; Bryana Christian, 4; and Hannah Mitchell, 8.

Danielle Newsom netted 12 to pace Mount Hope. Other point-producers included: Neiko Stewart, 5; Vickie Browning, 2; Ashantah Pagen, 2; Lisa Laramee, 2; and Emily Aurednik, 2.

Fayetteville hosts Summersville Friday at Fayetteville High School, with the boys playing the 6 p.m. game.
