CHARLESTON — The United States Army and Jostens, Inc. have announced this week’s nominees for the U.S. Army Iron Man Award presented by Jostens. The weekly award honors the best two-way high school football player in the state of West Virginia. This week’s nominees include:
-- Jordan Maynor — Mount Hope. Maynor scored the game-winning touchdown on a two-yard run with 38 seconds to play and recovered a fumble in Mount Hope’s 22-14 win over Meadow Bridge.
-- Logan Bennett — St. Marys. Bennett rushed for 66 yards, scored a touchdown, and scored three two-point conversions in a 44-0 win over Doddridge County. He also had an interception for the Blue Devils.
-- Ben Kettering — West Fairmont. Kettering’s interception set up his own go-ahead touchdown reception just before the end of the first half in a 41-17 Polar Bear romp over Bridgeport.
-- Michael Scott— Nitro. Scott passed for two touchdowns and returned a blocked punt for a third score as Nitro whipped Woodrow Wilson 45-0.
-- Jeff Petitt — Midland Trail. Petitt rushed for 88 yards and returned a blocked punt six yards for a touchdown in Midland Trail’s 26-14 win over Valley.
