Last week, the Midland Trail Patriots doubled up Independence, 28-14, in a middle school football game.

Running back Jayden Roop enjoyed a big game for the Trail offensive unit, carrying 12 times for 246 yards (a 20.5 yards per carry average) and scoring three touchdowns.

Gage Johnson had 17 rushing yards and a pair of two-pointers, Maximus White had 23 yards and a TD on two carries, and Colton Walkup rushed for 5 yards.

For the Midland Trail defense, defensive back Jacob Ewing recorded seven tackles, including a tackle for loss, and teammate Kaiden Nuckols logged six stops, including three TFL, and had two sacks.

Roop (TFL) and Cruz Tompkins each had six tackles and a pass deflected, and Aiden Weis registered six stops. Other defensive contributors were: Ryan Stephens, five tackles; Kordell Brown, four tackles (TFL) and one sack; Johnson, four tackles; Jett Ford, three tackles; Damon Mooney, three tackles; Aidan Foster, one tackle and two pass deflections; Zander Ooten, one tackle; White, one tackle; and Walkup, one tackle (TFL) and one sack.

Through four games, Midland Trail defensive totals were: Kaiden Nuckols, 22 tackles (12 TFL), three sacks, forced fumble and blocked punt; Aiden Weis, 20 tackles, one pass deflected; Cruz Tompkins, 17 tackles (TFL), and one pass deflected; Jayden Roop, 17 tackles (8 TFL), two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and one pass deflection; Jacob Ewing, 15 tackles (two TFL) and an interception; Kordell Brown, 12 tackles (five TFL), two sacks and two fumble recoveries; Damon Mooney, 11 tackles and a forced fumble; Zander Ooten, 10 tackles (TFL); Ryan Stephens, 10 tackles and one interception; Colton Walkup, nine tackles (TFL) and a sack; Gage Johnson, eight tackles and an interception for a touchdown; Maximus White, five tackles; Jett Ford, five tackles; Kaden Rose, four tackles (TFL); Avery Preast, three tackles; Johnathan Shumaker, two tackles; Gregory Cramer, two tackles (TFL), one forced fumble and one fumble recovery; Hayden Carte, one tackle; Cash Barnhouse, one tackle; Rykard Wood, one tackles; and Aidan Foster, one tackle and two passes deflected.

In the same span, offensive contributors have included: Foster, 2 of 4 passing, 31 yards, one TD; Roop, 38 carries, 686 yards, 11 TD, and one 12-yard receiving TD; Johnson, 24 carries, 136 yards, two TD, four two-pointers and a fumble; Walkup, 23 carries, 244 yards, three TD, five two-pointers, one 7-yard catch, and a fumble; Weis, four carries, 49 yards, two two-pointers and a fumble; White, three carries, 68 yards and two TD; Barnhouse, two carries for 2 yards, one TD and one two-pointer; and Carte, a two-pointer.
