Shady Spring put Oak Hill in a hole from the get-go en route to a 10-0 shutout of the Red Devils in the Class AA Region 3 baseball tourney opener at Jerry Epperly Field on Monday.
The Tigers got a two-run homer from Noel Sizemore and a three-run blast from Drew Clark in the top of the first inning to assume command at 5-0.
“I have to tip my hat to their hitting because they hit it all over the place,” Oak Hill head coach Dan Poland told The Register-Herald. “Five in the first inning is hard to come back from, especially when you put a goose egg up. Not taking anything away from (Shady Spring), but we just didn’t play very well today.”
The series now moves to Shady Spring for a 6 p.m. first pitch today.
“We need to fight a little more, get better at-bats and drive the baseball a little more,” Poland said. “This group of guys I have, they have come back all year. Hopefully they will go home, get some rest and come out ready tomorrow.”
Tommy Williams pitched a three-hit shutout for the Tigers.
The Red Devils committed four errors on the night.
