MONTGOMERY — The WVU Tech Golden Bear Athletic Club will stage its annual golf scramble on Thursday, July 24 at the Resort at Glade Springs in Daniels.

The event will begin with lunch and registration from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., followed by a shotgun start. An awards ceremony will be held immediately afterwards.

“The golf scramble is an exciting opportunity for alumni, friends and supporters of the Golden Bears to raise funds to support WVU Tech’s student-athletes,” said Mike Miller, GBAC president. “All funds raised through the tournament will directly benefit our athletic programs and help ensure the continued success of all our student-athletes.”

The golf outing comes just over a month after the GBAC’s highly-successful reverse raffle. WVU head football coach Bill Stewart was this year’s featured speaker at the raffle, which took place June 17 at the Embassy Suites in Charleston. In its 12th year, the raffle brought in nearly $80,000 for Tech athletics, the majority of which will go towards athletic scholarships for deserving student-athletes.

According to interim athletic director Pete Kelley, events such as the raffle and golf scramble are vital to the future of Tech athletics and its presence in the Kanawha Valley and local region. “We as a department have made a commitment to recruiting student-athletes from the state and specifically the (Kanawha) Valley and surrounding area,” said Kelley. “These events are not only a fundraiser, they are a great way for our supporters to come out and meet our staff and see first-hand what the future holds for Tech athletics.”

Registration for the July 24 scramble is $150 per person or $600 per team. The cost covers golf, cart and lunch at Glade Springs’ Cobb Course.

Corporate sponsor opportunities are also available for $650, which includes sponsorship and signage on one hole, as well as a foursome in the event. For more information or to register, golfers can call the WVU Tech Athletic Office at 304-442-3121 or Miller at 304-340-2009.
