The Valley boys outscored Ansted in every quarter on their way to a 53-22 middle school basketball win Wednesday at Smithers.
The Greyhounds (3-0) led 25-12 at half and outpointed the Trailblazers 28-10 in the final two periods.
Arik McGinnis netted 11 points and Matt Whiteside had 10 to lead Valley. Also providing points were: Drew Jones, 8; Aaron Liddle, 2; Raeshawn Breckenridge, 2; Brad Higginbotham, 4; Myles White, 6; Keyshawn Payne, 2; and Dakota Grimmett, 8.
J. Crist scored seven for Ansted. Other scorers were: D. Miller, 6; N. Kessler, 5; G. Neal, 2; and C. Hildebrand, 2.
Valley played Richwood Friday. The ‘Hounds host Clay on Jan. 6, 2009 and play at Ansted the following night before returning home to play Mount Hope on Jan. 8.

Also last week, the Mount Hope boys won two more contests. The Colts defeated Nuttall 42-37 Thursday. Prior to that, they topped Meadow Bridge 34-24.
In the Nuttall win, Jalen Jones exploded for 31 of the Colts’ points. Other scorers were: Larry Palmer, 4; Deon Marion, 4; and Robin Gore, 3.
The Generals were led by Jacob Grimmett’s 16-point effort. Others in the scoring column were: Barker, 4; Shane Hypes, 3; Devon Steele, 6; and Dakota Jones, 9.
Jalen Jones tallied 20 points to pace Mount Hope over Meadow Bridge. Also scoring were: Palmer, 4; Marion, 8; and team, 2.
Cody White scored 12 for Meadow Bridge. Other scorers were: Bryan Redden, 4; Dustin Richmond, 4; Cole Porter, 2; Logan Pomeroy, 1; and Gabriel Dixon, 1.
