The annual West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference basketball tournament in being staged at the Charleston Civic Center through Saturday.
Top seeds are Pitt Johnstown in the men’s division and Shepherd in the women’s.
“It should be a fun week in Charleston. Both tournaments are wide open for the first time in years. It’s tough to pick a favorite in either the men’s or the women’s tournaments,” said Will Prewitt, the league’s assistant commissioner.
The No. 4 Concord women, an 80-65 winner over Alderson-Broaddus in the first round, played in yesterday’s quarterfinals. Among the early casualties were the UC women, who fell to Kanawha Valley rival West Virginia State Monday.
Tickets are $8 per session and may be purchased at the Charleston Civic Center. Complete tournament ticket books may be purchased through the Charleston Lions Club for $30. Call 304-343-9415 for more information on ticket book sales.
A family pack including four general admission tickets, four hot dogs, four popcorns and four drinks for $25 will be available on Friday and Saturday. At least two of the tickets must be for children under-18 in order to take advantage of the bargain plan.
