ST. AUGUSTINE, FLA — Brent Butler sank four consecutive free throws with under two minutes to play to help rally WVU Tech (6-7) to a 78-74 verdict over Flagler College (4-7) Wednesday in a non-conference men’s basketball game at Flagler Gym.

A Daniel Marsh jumper from the foul line gave Flagler a 74-72 lead with 2:19 left in the game. Butler was fouled on the next trip down the court and sank both free throws to tie the game at 74-74 at the 1:56 mark.

Marsh missed a three-pointer on Flagler’s next trip, and Tech’s Jeraude Lowe came down with the rebound. Butler was fouled again on a drive to the basket and stepped to the line and sank both freebies to give Tech a 76-74 lead.

Flagler’s Bryan Borstelmann then missed a 24-footer, but Marsh was able to corral the rebound and call Flagler’s last time-out. Coming out of the time-out, Lee Wise misfired on a three-pointer, and Ronald Eskridge grabbed the rebound for the Golden Bears.

Butler took a pass from just in front of his own bench and was fouled on his drive to the hoop. He flung up a shot out of desperation and the ball went in, giving Tech a 78-74 advantage. The final score remained at 78-74 when Butler failed to convert the free throw.

In the last two minutes, Flagler was 0-for-6 from the field, with five of those attempts coming from three-point range.

Butler finished with a game-high 26 points, including a 4-of-6 effort from behind the arc. Armand Ivory added 21 points, nine rebounds and four assists for the Bears, who snapped a two-game losing streak.

Tech forced 15 Flagler turnovers and converted them into 21 points.

Marsh led Flagler with 14 points and four assists coming off the bench. Sam Jozenville added 13 points and four rebounds, while Borstelmann chipped in 10 points and seven rebounds.

Flagler College, in the throes of a three-game losing streak, will look to turn things around on Dec. 30 at Saint Leo.

WVU Tech will also hit the road, taking on NCAA Division I Cleveland State University on Dec. 30 at 5:30 p.m.
